Hull moved up to seventh in National League Two North after a hard-working 20-5 win over Rugby Lions at the Ferens Ground.

An early James Cameron penalty for Hull was quickly equalised by a try after 10 minutes when Rugby's Joss Andrews capitalised on a high ball to the left corner which Guy Martinson could only parry to Andrews for a five- metre run in.

Nevertheless, it only took Hull five minutes to retake the lead following Lloyd Warner's missed conversion.

Hull's pack forced the ball over from a close-range line-out which Scott Plevey finished after a 20-metre drive.

Hull had two further golden chances to extend their lead before the break, the best one falling to Matt White in his first game back for the first XV following injury.

A strong run from Tevita Vaikona brought the ball to five metres where he passed out to the right wing after drawing in Rugby's defence, giving White an open run for the line, but his mistimed catch kept the scores close. Another missed conversion and a missed penalty from Rugby meant that Hull's lead was kept to three by the interval.

The visitors did have the opportunity to equalise nine minutes into the second period although Warner's penalty came back off the post and gave Hull the wake-up call they needed.

Six minutes later another short range line-out was given for a foul on James Cameron and this enabled Kris Fullman to plant the ball after more impressive work from Hull's front five.

That was Fullman's first try for Hull since his summer move from Otley.

Fifteen minutes later Hull scored the try of the match after a fluid passing movement ended in Hull captain Chris Murphy collecting the ball on the left wing 20m out and after beating the first man handed the ball off to Robin Kitching to dive past the last man from five metres to wrap up the game.

Hull kicker James Cameron said: 'Considering the disruption from the weather I think we played well.

"We worked hard in training this week which was what we needed.

"When we went behind early in the game our heads didn't go down and that was important.

"I think earlier in the season our heads would have dropped but we kept going.

"The forward pack has been immense in the last few weeks and it's made things so much easier for the team."
