Story Picture

Hull produced a solid second half display to overturn Fylde and extend their unbeaten run to seven.

The hosts got proceedings underway after five minutes when Tom Barlow scored a mid range penalty from an innocuous Hull challenge.

Hull got into the lead minutes later when Robin Kitching picked up a loose ball from a scrum 20m out and embarked on a pacy run through the back line up the left flank to touch down although James Cameron missed the difficult conversion.

Barlow restored Fylde’s lead on the twelfth minute from another short range penalty as the home side increased the pressure with good work down the wings and in the scrum. Two minutes before half time full back Mike Waywell escaped a challenge down the left wing and offloaded to Adam Lewis 15m out who was able to cut inside the wide man and run their first try in for an eight point lead at half time.

The team talk must have done wonders for the away side as Rob Kitching made another foray down the left wing and sent an excellent long ball inside to Maea David before Darren Wigg recycled the tackle 5m from the line and dived over the line to bring the deficit back to one after Cameron’s conversion.

Ten minutes later Darren Wigg scored his second from a close catch and drive which Cameron also converted to give Hull a six point lead. And with ten minutes of the game remaining Cameron scored the vital penalty from 20m following a reckless Fylde tackle.

In the last five minutes of the match Fylde brought themselves back into bonus point contention with a mid range penalty but Cameron ended the day with a 30m penalty to give Hull a firm grasp on fifth place.
